Installing the RoadLog ELD vehicle unit into the vehicle

When performing the installation of the physical hardware, keep an organized record of which RoadLog unit is installed in which vehicle. This information is crucial for completing setup, so that the right vehicle name is attributed to the right RoadLog device.

The serial number is listed on the bottom of each unit.

Detailed hardware installation instructions are provided with every RoadLog ELD. The unit will power up automatically once it is plugged in. Refer to “VDO RoadLog ELD Installation Guide”, which is included with every RoadLog ELD device, or you can download it by clicking here.

Troubleshooting: What to do if RoadLog has been installed in the vehicle however it does not power up and the screen stays black:
Most power issues are related to either vehicle connection or the cable connecting vehicle with the RoadLog unit.
– Make sure the cable is not pinched by any dash panel
– Make sure the data port on the vehicle is clean of dust or debris etc.
– Make sure the terminals on the connector are perfectly clean, with no corrosion evident whatsoever.

In case your terminals are dirty or corroded, use contact cleaner to achieve a solid connection.

– Check whether the power on the data port is available. The most common reason for lack of power on the data port is blown fuse.

Here is how to check for a blown fuse:

1. Identify power distribution panel (usually in driver or passenger foot well).

2. Find the schematic showing which fuses protect each circuit.

3. Find the fuse protecting the data port or diagnostic connector.
In this case it is J9 for “DIAG PWR”

4. Remove the fuse and inspect for open circuit. Here is the example of a “blown fuse”.

5. Replace this fuse with a spare of the same size. Power to RoadLog should be restored.
